Dr. Valeria Rickard, the practice owner at NOAH & Reproduction Center and DVAH, is a Virginia Tech Veterinary School graduate. She has been practicing small animal veterinary medicine and surgery in the Northern Virginia area for the past 13 years. In 2005, she realized her dream and opened her own state-of-the-art practice in Haymarket. With her husband John, Dr. Rickard has designed and built a facility large enough to serve the needs of all their companion animal clients while retaining the feel of personalized service.

Being involved with their local community and seeing the need for a family oriented practice – as the Haymarket area was growing and developing – in 2012 she opened a second, “satellite” facility under the name DVAH there in Haymarket, VA.
Dr Rickard enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, from routine wellness visits and dentistry to complicated medical cases. She loves performing surgeries and has developed a special interest in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. In addition to her excellent skills in feline and canine medicine and surgery, Dr. Rickard is well known for her special interest and expertise in canine reproduction and pediatrics. Her vast clientele is drawn from across the entire United States including Alaska, and includes numerous international clients from as far as Europe and South America. The local airport has more than once been the recipient of private planes bringing their beloved pets to visit with Dr. Rickard and reap the benefits of her extensive knowledge, expertise and attention to detail.
Dr. Rickard offers seminars and symposiums in the latest advances in canine reproduction and pediatrics to local, national, and international organizations, schools, and kennel clubs. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American and European Reproduction Societies, and local and national kennel clubs.
Dr. Rickard was born in Moscow, Russia and attributes her deep love of animals to her first Airedale “Toybritt” with whom she did agility, conformation, and Shutzhund training. She has been an avid breeder and exhibitor of champion Airedale Terriers for over twenty years. She likes showing her dogs in conformation events and has titled numerous dogs to their championship titles. Her most notable wins include Westminster Kennel Club and National Specialties in the United States, as well as Crufts and the World Dog Show internationally. Dr. Rickard enjoys her time at home with her husband John and daughter Olivia. In college on full scholarship, Dr. Rickard played Division I tennis and continues to play in her “spare time”. Her additional interests include gardening, photography, scuba diving and traveling.
Dr. Cohen was born and raised in Southern California and grew up with many dogs and horses; as a child it was her dream to become a veterinarian when she grew up. She left California when she was nineteen to pursue her education and studies at Colorado State University.
While in Colorado she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a minor in Anatomy and Neurobiology in 1994. Following graduation she moved to the island of St. Kitts in the West Indies to attend Veterinary School at Ross University. She spent 2 years on the island then moved back to the United States to finish her clinical year at Louisiana State University and graduated with her degree in 1998.
Since graduation she has stayed on the East coast and has been practicing Veterinary medicine here in Maryland and Virginia in small animal practices. Her primary focus is working with dogs and cats, and had acquired extensive experience within internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, dermatology, behavior and nutrition.
Dr. Cohen is a very caring, compassionate and enthusiastic doctor, who is committed to providing a high quality of medicine for her clients and patients. She currently resides in New Windsor, MD. She has bird dogs, Quay, Mez and Peg and owns an amazing Sphynx cat named Zane. She is an avid horseback rider, loves working with her dogs and enjoys all outdoor activity.
Joel was raised in Kailua-Kona, HI. He attended Northern Virginia Community College and Old Dominion University, where he received degrees in General Studies and Industrial Technology, with core focuses in professional ethics and administrative leadership.
Since 1995, Joel has dedicated himself to the veterinary industry gaining extensive knowledge in various positions and practice profiles, including multi-location general medicine and emergency/specialty hospitals. He considers his career within the veterinary profession to be a satisfying and rewarding service, driven by a deep appreciation for the human-animal bond. His professional interests are finance, marketing and human resource management/development.
Joel received the designation of CVPM (Certified Veterinary Practice Manager) in 2012. As a CVPM, he has achieved the industry’s highest credential for practice management professionals, demonstrating experience, knowledge, and commitment to the pursuit of veterinary excellence. He is active in a variety of industry associations, most recently serving on the VHMA Ethics Committee as a member and as the Chairman.
Joel spends his time with his fiancé at their farm in the Shenandoah Valley. Together they enjoy a country lifestyle while tending to the needs of their beef cattle herd. When not farming, he can be found tinkering on old tractors and farm equipment in the workshop or exploring the hillsides and backcountry on a variety of all-terrain vehicles.
Beverly was born and raised in Manassas. She came to the animal field on a whim but has enjoyed every moment since. Beverly came to our hospital in August of 2014 as a Client Service Specialist and quickly became the Hospital Coordinator.
Beverly currently lives in Winchester and when she’s not working, enjoys scrapbooking, cooking and shopping.
Jaime is a northern Virginia native who joined North Oatlands in 2017. She grew up with animals her entire life and became interested in showing dogs at the age of seven after watching a family friend who was involved in the show world. Jaime has now been showing dogs since childhood and breeding Chinese Cresteds for 20 years. She became a veterinary technician over 12 years ago and has loved every minute.
When she’s not working, Jaime also enjoys grooming, photography, hiking and traveling.
